The Bulgarian Gender Research Foundation is founded in June 1998 in Sofia as an independent NGO of public utility. From its establishment the BGRF works in the field of: research, lobbying and proposals for legislative changes, campaigning, networking with practicing lawyers, identifying the relation between the need for changing social practices and proposal of legislative changes.
The BGRF has branches in Plovdiv, Haskovo, Gorna Oryahovitza. Since 2001 the

Our main purpose is:
Achieving gender equality as an integral part of the socio-economic and democratic development of our country through:
- Legislative changes guaranteeing gender equality in the socio-economic rights
- Protection of women against violence in all its forms – domestic violence, trafficking in women, sexual harassment at the workplace
- Adoption of national policy that is deeply engaged with the principle of balanced participation of the both sexes in political life
- Identify, protect, and lobby for specific needs and problems of young people
- Raising public awareness on gender equality issues

- Prevention of discrimination
